What are OEM Parts?

OEM stands for “original equipment manufacturer”. In other words they are parts used by the manufacturer when building the original product. Aftermarket parts are designed to mimic the original parts but will often fail to meet the exact specifications of original parts. At Magnum Collision Center, we always advise the use of OEM parts on all makes and models.

Safety

The main goal of any reputable body shop is to ensure the safety of their customer’s vehicles. This is a driving factor behind our rigorous repair process, and also an important advantage of OEM parts. An aftermarket part might look like the real thing, but often times they are not as structurally sound as the original component.

Modern safety systems continue to advance with more complicated designs. These designs incorporate advanced computers and sensors as well as structural components that have been designed to react intelligently during a collision using a “crash management system”. A crash management system incorporates all of the vehicles structural components. Certain parts are designed to crumple easily, while others are designed to remain rigid. By doing this manufacturers have been able to redirect the impact of a collision away from the passengers.

While that is going on, your vehicle is deploying air bags at the precise moment the computer sensors have told them to based on factors such as speed of the vehicle and even the passengers weight. Crash tests have shown that a few milliseconds can make a big difference in the threat of injury. These features have made dramatic improvements to driver safety. In order for these features to continue to function after a collision, they need to be repaired to the exact factory specifications they were designed with. Only OEM parts can be guaranteed to perfectly fit into your vehicle’s safety system.

Value

Your vehicle is likely the second largest investment that you will make in your lifetime, next to your home. Being in an accident does not have to diminish the value of your vehicle. By using OEM parts we can restore not only the safety of your vehicle, but its value and factory warranties as well.

We often say, “a quality repair is invisible.” This means that when undergoing a post repair inspection there will be no signs that the repair had even happened. By using OEM parts we can perfectly match the original specifications of your vehicle. On the contrary, the use of aftermarket parts is usually very obvious and will diminish the resale value of your vehicle.
